    Hello,

Let me make you aware that in US there is no session in December as universities are closed for Christmas. There are two intakes one is in Spring and other one in fall that means February and September and I'm sorry to say that for fall most of the deadlines are already over but don't lose hopes now you should look for Spring 2011 session.

Even if you are looking for admission in Spring 2011 you should have GRE scores by july end of mid August. Its better uif you apply for colleges early.

You can also seek help of counselors by writing them at amit.wadhwa@learnhub.com or you can call us at: +91-9818566611.

    Hello,

I perceive you are aspiring for higher education in US, without taking the GRE. However, for your information GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is an aptitude test designed to assess the potential of bachelor's degree students to succeed in academic studies at the graduate level (master's, doctorate). It is hence considered as eligibility criteria in universities across US, Canada and few German and UK universities.

Also, there is no intake as ‘Feb session’. The US system of education has the following intakes :

    Fall session
    Spring session
    Summer session

Of the above specified, the most advisable session for the international applicants if the Fall intake. Though the spring session is also considered, it is not popular and advisable for international applicants for the following reasons :

    • Not all universities consider international applicants for Spring session.
    • Not all programs are offered in the spring session.
    • The intake of international applicants is very low when compared to the Fall session.
    • Financial aid is very limited since most of them are awarded during the fall session.

However, for your reference please find below randomly the names of few universities in California offering the program of your choice :

    University of Southern California
    California State University, Chico
    California State University, Northridge

    Good luck!

    Hello,

Though AWA of 3.0 at 4.0 is considered average for the international applicants, there are universities who lay strong standing of the AWA scores.

As per the sufficed information, your GRE score could help you through some top notch schools, however comparatively low GPA could be a cause of worry. It would be better if you could specify the individual scores on GRE and the academic background in terms of GPA for better analysis of the profile.

Also, the admission committee always gives equal weightage to the statement of purpose and reference letters as well.

Do get with detailed information for further guidelines.

    Good luck!

    Hello,

If you are aiming for the Fall2011 (August-September intake), its high time you started with the preparation for GRE and TOEFL.At an average one should give at least 3-4 months as a preparation period for GRE.

The deadlines of the US universities could be as close as in December and they would seek your score cards to be sent along with the other requirements for the admission procedure.

From the selection of the universities to the application process (transcripts, reference letters, statement of purpose, financial documents), the entire process is extremely tedious and time consuming. I would recommend to plan all the activities involved so that you can apply well in time.

For relevant guidelines and better preparation, you may access the following links :

    Hello Kash,

You should give the test as and when you are sure that you have prepared well and will be able to give your best. GRE will be conducted on 23rd October and 20th November which you can consider for Fall session next year.

If you are aiming for the Fall2011 (August-September intake), its high time you started with the preparation for GRE and TOEFL.At an average one should give at least 3-4 months as a preparation period for GRE.

    Hello,

From all that I have surfed, please find below the university that meets your requirements :

    Monmouth University :

The Master of Science in Software Engineering offers a candidate to learn skills necessary to be a successful team contributor in all aspects of software development, such as requirements, design, development, testing, maintenance, process, project management, and interface design. The program offers several optional tracks:

    • Embedded Systems
    • Management of Software Technology
    • Information Management
    • Telecommunications
    • Organizational Management
    • Thesis

The Graduate Records Examination (GRE): required for Corporate and Public Communication (as an alternative to a portfolio of work), Psychological Counseling (as an alternative to a master’s degree in a related field)

I hope the above specified is of help!

    Take care!

    Hello,

Though the scores on the verbal section is a cause of worry, the quantitative scores should help you consider the US universities.

It must also be remembered that though outstanding scores on the tests, be it GRE or TOEFL are enhancing factors, one does not compensate the other and each is designed with specific purpose.

The link below should prove helpful to understand the same :

    Purpose of the standardized tests-

I feel with the current scores you should be able to make through a decent university in USA. You may consider the following universities :

    California State University, Chico
College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    Wayne State University
College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    University of Alabama
College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    Oklahoma State University
College of Engineering Architecture and Technology, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    Illinois Institute of Technology

With regard to the financial aid, it is completely based on your academic performance in the first semester in the university and need of the applicant. The most commonly availed options by the international applicants are the Research Assistantship, Teaching Assistantship and Graduate Assistantship. In comparison to the scholarships these are far less competitive and one can easily cover up the daily expenses and gain practical exposure also.

Do get back for further guidance.

    Hello,

First of all I would like to congratulate you for getting such good scores. I also, feel one aspect of the profile (AWA) does not solely decide the consideration of offering admits. So your worries with respect to the AWA are irrelevant. Again, the TOEFL scores, relevant projects, reference letters, statement of purpose all play a vital role during the evaluation of the profile.

Considering of what has been sufficed, you may consider the following universities :

    Cornell University
    Georgia Institute of Technology
    University of Wisconsin Madison
    Purdue University, West Lafayette
    University of Southern California

With regards to the financial aid, it is completely based on your academic performance in the first semester in the university and need of the applicant. The most commonly availed options by the international applicants are the Research Assistantship, Teaching Assistantship and Graduate Assistantship. Hello,

We can definitely guide you with the selection of universities as per your profile. However, you must remember that an apt profile talks of the academic records, TOEFL scores (projected) as well.

    University Of South Florida
College of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering

    California State Polytechnic University Pomona

    Hello Sri Anand,

While the scores on the quantitative section are sound enough, the scores on the verbal could be a cause of worry. Also, for TOEFL aim for a minimum of 80 on iBT that is the minimum cut off for the majority of the universities in US. A score of 100+ is considered a good score than can enhance one’s profile.

However, while the universities do consider all the aspects of the profile, one score cannot compensate the other. If you are confident of taking the test I would recommend that you re take the test. However, you must remember that the GRE pattern is soon going to undergo some changes with effect from august 2011 and hence if you seek a score before November 2011, it is preferred you consider the current pattern.

Nnow with regard to the funding options from the university, scholarships are other financial assistance are generally offered to the academically excellent profiles and at times to the needy who prove their worth for the program. While we cannot confirm financial assistance from the universities in the specified locations, I would recommend you opt for the scholarship offered by Learnhub, provided you meet with the terms and conditions to avail the same. Please access the following link for detailed information on the same :

    Learnhub Scholarship

Considering your profile you may try and consider the following universities :

    California State University,Chico
College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    Illinois Institute of Technology

    Louisiana State University
College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

    Hello Vikram,

Since you are in the second year of Bachelors, you have ample of time in hand to start with the preparation, understand the application procedure and select universities.

As of now try and browse through the universities as per the program in various destinations and analyze which suits your interest. Consider other aspects like the finances incurred and compare within the same destination and different destinations.

You could begin with the registration and preparation of the test takes by when you are confident of taking the year, but preferably not delaying beyond the third year. Spend time and start short listing the desired universities/colleges. This will help you understand the US education system and the requirements that you need to consider for a Masters in US. Go through the curriculum and assess, does it help you meet your career goals.

Try and contact people who are already enrolled abroad for higher studies to get an insight of the culture, living style etc that might help you finalize on the location.

Do consider the English Proficiency Tests (TOEFL/IELTS) that are mandatory for international applicants and the standardized test (GRE) for applicants seeking a Masters degree in destinations like US, Canada etc.

You may access the following links to have an overview of the test takes generally considered for pursuing a Masters :

    GRE
    TOEFL
    IELTS

Do the score reporting to the universities shortlisted. Have your detailed transcripts /mark sheets in hand to be sent to the desired university/college for evaluation.

Letters of reference or recommendation letters play a very important part in your admission especially in courses that earn you a doctoral degree. A recommendation letter is a signed statement from a person who knows you well professionally or has taught you in a subject that is related to the course you are applying to. It should list your positive and negative qualities, strengths and other such information.

The personal essays, and/or statement of purpose, play a very important role in the process of evaluating your application for both admission as well as financial aid because it gives the faculty assessing your application their most significant impression of you as an individual.

A résumé is an important part of your application but not mandatory for a MS program. It should include all information of professional work experience along with the details like positions held, achievements and range of work.

Fill the Online Application Form for the university before the deadline specified for the program. You should also update the required document online such as LORs or SOP. Also, send them separately via courier to the department or at the address mentioned in the university website.

Send all the required documents (transcripts, LOR, SOP etc.) to the department/Admissions Office / International Student Office as per the requirement of the university.

Now you need to await for the response from the university. Most of the universities do revert or send the Acceptance Letter or I-20 via mail or courier with 2-4 weeks after receiving the application.
Once you receive an admit offer form the university, apply for a Student Visa. Please get in touch with the Embassy or Consulate near your region for the same. Once you are through with the visa interview, fly to your dream university/college!

As of now I would recommend to concentrate on the academic performance (GPA) all through the program since this plays a vital role during the evaluation of the profile.

    Good luck!

    Hello Abhinav,

You definitely have a sound profile. However, please note the only US universities that I came across offering a Masters in Electronic and Communication is Portland State University and Devry University.

You can definitely secure better universities and hence I would recommend you consider other relevant options as well. Find below a list of such universities that might meet with your interest :

    University Of Pennsylvania
School of Engineering and Applied Science, Department of Computer and Information Science (Master of Science in Engineering in Embedded Systems )

University Of Michigan - Ann Arbor
College of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Division of Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSE in Electrical Engineering - Solid-State Electronics )

    Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Hartford Campus, Department of Engineering and Science (M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering - Communication Networks )

    University Of Pittsburgh
Swanson School of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (MS in Electrical Engineering - Electronics )

Stony Brook University, State University Of New York
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (M.S. in Electrical Engineering - Semiconductors Devices, Quantum Electronics )

Do get back in case of any query.

    Take care!
