College Admission Essays - About You or Them? (Discussion)

Most universities require of you an admissions essay to be included in your admissions package. Do you think it is necessary to write a essay that is personal to each and every school you apply to? Or do you believe that the essay should be more focused on you and your opportunities ahead, rather than what each individual university or college may offer?

Personally, I think that the admissions essay should be about you. This is the only real personal application you can use to profile yourself as a unique individual. They should be able to see from your style of writing, your experiences, wit and fluidity that you are someone to consider. Yes, you can include how the school will be a great environment for you to be a part of, but I think the essay itself should show them why they should want you on their campus.

I agree, the essay should focus on you and your accomplishments. The admission board of the school already knows that their school is great, no point in writing much about that. You want to impress them with why you’re the best person ever so that they accept you.

As such, I think it’s also probably better to work your lower back off on one great essay that you can resubmit each time you apply, it’ll save you time later on.
