Hi there Mansel,
Congratulations on your recent graduation! This must be a very exciting time for you.
In terms of deciding between a masters in Mechancial or Industrial Engineering, I would highly recommend that you look into different program offerings to see what you think would be the best match for you.
Keep in mind that Mechanical Engineering involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines. Most mechanical engineers design and build engines and power plants.
You’ll find that job opportunities reside in the field to design and analyze motor vehicles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, watercraft, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, robotics, and medical devices to name a few.
Whereas, Industrial Engineering is operations management, systems engineering, production engineering, manufacturing engineering or manufacturing systems engineering.
Most engineering disciplines apply skills to very specific areas, industrial engineering is applied in virtually every industry. As for job opportunities, examples of where industrial engineering might be used include streamlining an operating room, distributing products worldwide, and manufacturing cheaper and more reliable automobiles. Industrial engineers typically use computer simulation, especially discrete event simulation, for system analysis and evaluation.
Hopefully with the clarification of the two, you will be more aware of where the difference lies and be able to make a concrete decision as to which discipline you’d like to pursue a Masters in.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Good luck!

Hey mansel,
Industrial Design is creating and developing concepts/specifications which optimize both function, value and appearance. If you take any product or service, surely it will require industrial design.
Job opportunities in Industrial Design include:
Industrial Designer
Product Designer
User Interface Designer
Product Developer
Electrical Designer
You can find lots of Industrial Design jobs in big cities such as Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. You can find jobs in companies that create software and hardware products, especially for technology. You can find industrial design in all products and companies, from cellphones to furniture. The design of consumer products is vital for any product to be successful! :)
Here are some programs in the US:
Westwood College – CAD / Architectural Drafting
Louisville Technical Institute – has programs in Computer Aided Design Drafting, Computer Engineering Technology and Robotics & Industrial Automation.
Here are some Industrial Design programs in Canada:
University of Calgary
Carleton University
Humber College- Actions

hey mansel, its a very fine question that what to opt in between mechanical and industrial design . well according to me both fields have variety of options and a vast field.i will suggest u to opt for industrial design because its an upcoming field with an implementation of computers in mechanical field there are scope in designing as well as in computational engg.u can go for industrial designing and fulfill ur dreams

Hi there Ashish,
It appears that a Post Doctral Fellowship is not as popular in America as it is in the UK. I was able to draw up an opportunity from Scholarship Info that matches your credentials and you wish to consider applying for.
The Division of Clinical and Experimental Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to study the pathways linking chronic inflammation and carcinogenesis.
Responsibility: The candidate will conduct research including Helicobater pylori as a model to study these pathways.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field. Experience in immunological assays, flow cytometry, and Real Time PCR is a plus. The candidate must have independence, innovation, communication skills, and prior publications.
If you are in fact interested in this position, please send your CV to Dr. Ellen Beswick at ejbeswic@utmb.edu.
I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.
Good luck!
